St. Theresa's Arts and Science College for Women, Tharangambadi, stands as a beacon of empowerment and education for young women. The college was officially established in 2017 under the affiliation of Bharathidasan University to fulfill the long-cherished dream of offering higher education to the local women of Tharangambadi. Tranquebar, "The queen of the Coramandal coast"has rich tradition and aglorious past. It is the symbol of the Portuguese – Danish – French - English Heritage. The Institute of Salesian Missionaries of Mary Immaculate (SMMI) arrived Tranquebar in 1901 in order to uplift the downtrodden. St.Theresa's Convent has been travelling with the local communities since 1901. Prominently, it has provided significant education in there gi on through running of schools and we have the biggest home for children in our state having 879 children where, many very poor, deprived and destitute children stay and go to school. The girl students who complete their Higher Secondary School Education fail to pursue higher education, which is primarily owing to economic deprivation coupled with cultural factor. Most of these girls are from the poor and marginalized communities of Tharangambadi region.

Considering the plight of the above less privileged youthgirls to pursue their Higher Education, The General and hercouncil, the Provincial and her council permitted to start aCollege for women at Sathangudi, Tharangambadi.

St. Theresa's Arts and Science College for Women was founded in August 2017. It was affiliated to Bharathidasan University, Thiruchirapalli. Since 2021-2022, our college came under Annamalai University as per the G.O of the Tamil Nadu Government. It is a Minority Catholic educational institution, established and administrated by the Sisters of Salesian Missionaries of Mary Immaculate belonging to the Society of Mary Immaculate.

It is primarily meant for the higher education of deserving Catholics, but members of other communities are also admitted without reference to caste or creed, and their rights of conscience are respected.

Abiding by the teachings of our founders, the college commits itself to empowering women and the underprivileged. Our founders directed us in the school of St. Francis de Sales, who was captivated by the meek and gentle Jesus. We emphasize imparting Salesian virtues like gentleness, patience, meekness, simplicity, and cheerfulness.
