Student Mentor System

Introduction

At St. Theresa's Arts and Science College, the Student Mentor System is an integral part of our academic and personal support structure. The system aims to foster a nurturing environment where students receive consistent guidance, encouragement, and support throughout their academic journey.

Each student is assigned a faculty mentor who serves as a trusted advisor, offering personal, academic, and career-related guidance. Mentors regularly interact with their mentees to monitor progress, address challenges, and help students set and achieve meaningful goals.

Through the Student Mentor System, we strive to create a positive and inclusive atmosphere that empowers every student to thrive confidently in college and beyond.

Guidelines of Student Mentor System

To ensure effective implementation and consistency in the Student Mentor System, the following guidelines are established:

Mentor Allocation
  • Each faculty member is assigned a group of 15–20 students as mentees.
  • Mentor–mentee assignments are made at the beginning of the academic year and remain consistent throughout the student's course, wherever possible.
  • A record of mentor–mentee allotments is maintained by the department coordinator.
Roles and Responsibilities of Mentors
  • Maintain regular contact with assigned students through one-on-one or group meetings (at least once a month).
  • Monitor academic performance, attendance, and behavior of mentees.
  • Offer support in personal, emotional, and social matters when required.
  • Guide students in setting career goals and planning for higher studies or employment.
  • Encourage participation in co-curricular and extracurricular activities.
  • Maintain a confidential record of all mentoring sessions and actions taken.
Roles and Responsibilities of Mentees
  • Attend mentoring sessions regularly and sincerely.
  • Maintain open and respectful communication with the mentor.
  • Share academic or personal difficulties honestly to seek support and guidance.
  • Act on the mentor's suggestions for improvement and development.
  • Maintain a mentoring file or diary if instructed by the department.
Mentoring Documentation
  • Each mentor should maintain a Mentoring Logbook containing:
    • Student attendance and participation records
    • Progress reports and assessment notes
    • Action plans and follow-up schedules
    • Feedback and improvement suggestions
  • Reports should be submitted periodically to the departmental coordinator.
Confidentiality and Ethics
  • All personal and sensitive information shared during mentoring should be treated with strict confidentiality.
  • Mentors must foster a non-judgmental and empathetic environment.
Review and Monitoring
  • The effectiveness of the mentoring system will be reviewed by the IQAC or a designated Monitoring Committee.
  • Feedback may be collected from both mentors and mentees to improve the system.
